What AskLumen is

AskLumen provides churches with an assistant that answers visitors' questions using information the church has published on its own website, in its email newsletters, and in related public sources.

What we collect

Your device's time zone and language are sent with each question so the answer uses the church's local times and your language; we do not store them. We do not collect your name, contacts, or location.

How long we keep it

Questions, answers, and the device identifier are deleted automatically after 90 days. Only signed-in administrators of the church whose assistant you used can view them, along with our own staff when providing support.

Church newsletters

We subscribe our own mailbox to churches' email newsletters and use the announcements a church sends as information its assistant can answer from. We never access your email or any church's mailbox.

What we do not do

How answers are generated

To answer a question, we send its text to service providers that process it on our behalf: OpenAI (to understand the question and write the answer) and Cohere (to rank which church pages are most relevant). We use these providers' business APIs, under terms that do not allow them to use this data to train their models. Church content, questions, and answers are stored with Google Cloud / Firebase, and church content is indexed for search with Pinecone.

Children

AskLumen is a general-audience service and is not directed at children under 13. Please do not include personal information in questions.

Your choices

To ask about, correct, or request deletion of data associated with you, contact us at hello@asklumen.app — or contact the church whose assistant you used, and we will assist them.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date above reflects the current version.
